Once Around Algonquin an Epic Canoe Journey
In 2013 Kevin Callan and his canoemate, Andy Baxter set out to complete Algonquin Provincial Park’s legendary The Meanest Link. This 20-day canoe trek is made up of 350 km, 55 lakes, six rivers (three to be paddled upstream) and 93 portages adding up to 68 km. The route is the brain child of the Algonquin Outfitters staff, Alex Hurley and Gordon Baker, devised in the summer of 2004. They combine four challenging canoe routes connecting the four Algonquin Outfitters stores serving Algonquin Park: Oxtongue Lake, the city of Huntsville, Brent Community on Cedar Lake and Lake Opeongo. It all adds up to “Once Around Algonquin” and it’s definitely on “Mean” canoe trip.
